In addition to the Creative Economy research project, Susan is engaged in several projects initiated by Cornell's CARDI (Community and Rural Development Institute) where she is pursuing an M.P.S. degree that looks specifically at using art in community development, focusing on interviews with community arts practitioners. The CARDI projects have ranged from providing technical assistance to communities like Spencer in Tioga County to creating a Main Streets resource guide to be used by Main Streets organizations across the state.

Susan is a committee member of Cornell Cooperative Extension of Tompkins County's Family and Community Development and Strategic Planning Committees.

Prior to her move upstate, Susan worked in Brooklyn, New York with a major provider of substance abuse treatment services, Outreach Project, employing classic community organizing strategies to open a clinic in the Greenpoint section of the borough, then becoming the administrator of a substance abuse counselor (CASAC) training program in the new facility. This position was provided for by the New York State Department of Criminal Justice.

Since 1992, Susan has been a public speaking coach. She has concentrated her clients within the academic community, developing training to coordinate with on-campus leadership programs. Her clients include Dartmouth College and, especially, Rutgers University and its Institute for Women's Leadership. Susan holds a B.A. in English from Dartmouth and completed study at Trinity Repertory Conservatory where she studied acting, playwriting, and directing and developed strategies for effective performance.
